Free Classroom Posters: The 8 Parts of Speech

Parts of Speech Posters.PNG

I must admit that as a student I never really understood the difference between nouns, adverbs, interjections and the other parts of speech all that well.

Then when I went to university I almost convinced myself that they were an area of superfluous knowledge when I succeeded at a tertiary level with little to no knowledge of them

As a teacher though. I was quickly found out when trying to give my students the tools and language to make their writing more mature and appealing to specific audiences.

To address this I have spent quite a bit of time brushing up my own knowledge on the 8 parts of common speech.

  • Nouns
  • Verbs
  • Pronouns
  • Adjectives
  • Prepositions
  • Conjunctions
  • Interjections
  • Adverbs

To remind me of this I have made 9 posters to share with anyone who wants them that outline the purpose, example words and sentences for each of the 8 areas.

Click here to download them and enjoy.

*Please note all of our posters are originally designed using high resolution images and fonts at A3 paper size.

Free thinking hats posters for your classroom

Edward DeBono's Six Thinking Hats is a time-tested, proven and practical thinking tool. It provides a framework to help people think clearly and thoroughly by directing their thinking attention in one direction at a time.

These set of seven posters based on DeBono's Thinking Hats will make it simple for students to follow the process and solve problems in a logical and structured manner.

It works like this; white hat facts, green hat creativity, yellow hat benefits, black cautions, red hat feelings, and blue hat process.

It's a simple mental metaphor. Hats are easy to put on and to take off. Each hat is a different color which signals the thinking process . In a group setting each member thinks using the same thinking hat, at the same time, on the same thinking challenge—we call this focused parallel thinking--a tool that facilitates creativity and collaboration. It enables each person's unique point of view to be included and considered. Argument and endless discussion become a thing of the past. Thinking becomes more thorough.

FREE ROMAN NUMERAL POSTER FOR YOUR CLASSROOM

Roman numerals were the accepted numerical system of the ancient world for a longer period of time than our current 0 - 9 Hindu Arabic numerical system has been.

As a maths teacher, Roman Numerals open the door to discussing the evolution of mathematics and society by telling the rise and fall of empires, great minds of the past and evolving our thought processes as the world became a larger community.

This free poster not only explains how the Roman Numeral system works, so that your students can identify the production years at the end of movies, but also offers a great collection of historical facts about it's stories past.  Did I also mention it looks great too.

So...  Feel free to download it here, and Print it out as large as possible.  Enjoy!

How to use Blockposters.com to create large classroom displays

Block posters is a very simple tool that allows you to turn a small photograph or classroom display into massive posters.  It is achieved by simply slicing your smaller image into segments and then offering you the opportunity to print these slices out in a much larger A3 or A4 format.

Essentially depending on the quality of your original image you can blow up a a poster from anywhere from 4 to 24 times the original size.

Below are some visual examples of how it all works.

Block posters is totally free and you can access it here.

Must Have Maths Problem Solving Toolbox Posters for your classroom

We have been using a resource known at my school as the maths toolbox to show students strategies to deal with unknown and difficult math problems for a number of years.  There are 12 in all and in the next few days I will be adding a presentation explaining how and when to use each of these.

I have just put together some posters for you to download in an A3 and A4 format that I would strongly recommend sticking in your classroom and your students workbooks to quickly refer to when unsure of how to attack a difficult problem.

These concepts can be pitched at any age and are a must have for all teachers to add to their own tool kit.  I'd love to hear of any other great resources that you have to share also.
